What is “majinai”?

The meaning of the term majinai:

Broadly ‘magic’, a collective term for means such as talismans, mantras and rites by which people tey to manipulate events and indluence spirits, either to bring good luck or to ward off harm (sawari), curses (tatari) disease or other calamity.
